Sacred Heart University’s Sports Broadcasting Program is a Must for Students Interested in a Career in Sports BroadcastingSacred Heart University’s Sports Broadcasting Program is a Must for Students Interested in a Career in Sports Broadcasting

sports broadcasting

In a world where the popularity of music stations has been declining, and Royaltv01 channels are struggling to generate advertising revenue, sports broadcasting is in the midst of a renaissance. With sports content being available in a variety of forms, from the radio to television to even our phones – it is important that the broadcasters who create this content have a solid foundation in place. This is why a strong program that gives students the proper undergraduate and graduate level education and experiences in this field is key.

Whether it is a professional play-by-play announcer who calls the action during live sporting events, or an expert analyst or color commentator who provides commentary and insights during game breaks, sports broadcasters have a responsibility to connect with the audience in a unique way that enhances their experience of the event. This is only possible if the broadcaster is passionate about the sport or event and possesses the ability to convey that passion in their words.

The Art of Crafting Compelling Pre-game Hype

Sacred Heart University’s Sports Broadcasting graduate program not only teaches the theory behind what makes good sports broadcasters but also puts the student in front of professional studio equipment, cameras, and microphones. Students will be encouraged to job shadow with a local play-by-play announcer at a prearranged game day at a local venue such as minor league or collegiate sports, to get hands-on practice. Students will be given the opportunity to create sports broadcasting audio resumes and work samples that can be critiqued by faculty and fellow students, ensuring that they are ready to launch their careers in this exciting and evolving industry.
